Implants

A

n inplant is an artificial tooth root, normally constructed in the metal titanium, which is inserted into the jaw to carry a tooth, or several teeth.

Implants replace missing teeth, or groups of teeth, without the need to have removable plates or reduce adjoining teeth to make bridges.

After several months, the bone fuses with the metal implant. A small attachment is left protruding through the gum, and dentures or bridges can then be secured to this attachment.

As one implant can support one, or more false, teeth. Five or six implants can replace all the teeth in one jaw. Putting an implant into the jaw is a small operation, carried out under local anaesthetic, or sometimes with sedation.

The experience of patients having the implant placement is that pain is not a problem, either during the treatment or afterwards. If the implant is allowed to heal for at least two months the success rate is better.

This metal has been found to have a unique ability to heal into or “integrate” with the bone. The success rate with modern implants is very high, nearly 100%, but a small number can fail.

If you are in good health and have adequate jaw bone, yes. The success rate is reduced in case of poorly controlled diabetes. It is greatly reduced in smokers.

The decision to proceed can only be decided after a detailed examination of your mouth. The actual costs would be part of a detailed treatment plan.

Finally we can easily be arrange this procedure.
